Different Opinions about Homework

Homework is a very old concept, which has been present in our education system since decades now, year after year, teachers keep giving a pile of homework to the students and the students get bogged down by the work and keep getting worked up about the same. No homework assistance, no support and no parent or teacher can reduce the anxiety and stress related to homework that is present in all the children. Where on one hand people think that homework is a necessity and it is extremely important, at the same time there are people who consider homework to be a waste of time and are of an opinion that it doesn’t do much benefit to the students. Hence, all this debate has arisen the difference in opinions about homework.

On one hand, people believe that homework is extremely crucial for the students because it gives them a platform to practice and revise whatever they have learnt in school. They feel that all the homework, homework assistance and the feedback and grades that the students get help them in learning more and in a more efficient manner. Students become more competitive and are always in touch of what has been taught to them and hence have trouble in the future or during exams. Hence, majority of the people around us always have the impression that homework is an extremely important concept and all the students should be given homework for their better growth and development. There is also an association of homework with the cognitive skills of the children like their confidence, motivation, self-confidence, writing and reading skills etc.

But at the same time, there are also various people who feel that there are also so many extra activities that can be helpful for the students. They never say that studies are not useful but what they really want to imply is that apart from studies, a child needs to participate and indulge into so mainly other activities because these activities are also an important part of the learning process and the learning curve. They feel that too much homework won’t give students enough time to do anything else and hence will be left behind in the competitive world. Other talents and hobbies are also equally important as the studies. Not only the extracurricular activities, students can also start hating studies because of the excess work they are asked and expected to do at home. Thus, the differences have been there since quite some time and it will remain like this. Till the time some concrete measures are taken, the controversy cannot be solved. So what the teachers can do the best for keeping everybody’s interests in mind is to make sure they give minimal and required homework to the students.
